    All the 5's - 55

I once heard it's all about the notes that one doesn't play, and I'm starting to understand this. That said, I'm not going to play into all of the cliche jazz talk I've been exposed to recently. I'm gonna approach this the same way I approach all of my playing, as should you - if you think it sounds good, it sounds good. 2 5 1

    Slow and Steady

    Slow and Steady

Today was a test of patience. I caught the A train (jk, I'll look at that tune in the near future) and didn't expect to end up somewhere familiar, but there we have it. This chord progression is descending diatonically in 4ths(ish) and is a real pain in the jazz. I'm excited for tomorrow.

I haven't practiced for 2 days. I guess I took "slow and steady" too literally. None the less, I'm still trying to slooowwwwww down and pay more attention to each note. Old habits die hard. I'm gonna jump on the jazz train and see where I end up. Thanks @georgecook4195 for the inspiration to keep pushing on in discomfort.

    Day Forté

Slow and steady. A few days ago, I post a video of a rather beautiful chord progression that I ripped out of an old song I wrote. Today, I included new melodies and have some fun with textures. I don't feel like I played much; at least, not by the usual standard, but I'm learning more about the importance of breathing. If one compares playing an …

    Triginta septem

This month I plan on going slow and steady.

If watching The Godfather has taught me anything, it's that I have 3 hours spare in a day. The whole point is to be well rounded and I feel I wouldn't roll very well. So, I guess this is a realisation that it's as important to work on your weaknesses as it is your strengths. This month I plan on going slow and steady. It's way too easy to fall …

It's the 31st. January can jog on

It's the 31st. January can jog on.

24 minute warm ups we're a good idea, but maaaaaan it got boring fast. I have learnt this: 1, no one needs to warm up for 24 minutes and 2, I made a very valuable exercise become a chore with how I approached it. Next month will be different. However, I've had fun for the last few days with some hybrid picking that has slotted perfectly into my …

Day 28 2: The Day After Day 28

I think I'm on to something with this lick. It's evolving. I'm working on something that started from a damn drum rudiment. I've practiced for two hours today and it's not over yet.

Once upon a time, I played drums a lot. I'm looking at guitar from a drummer's perspective more than I realise.

Once upon a time, I played drums a lot. I'm looking at guitar from a drummer's perspective more than I realise. The rudiment every drummer knows is a paradiddle - R L R R L R L L. I took this rudiment and translated it onto the guitar and here's what I've been playing around with. Time to drill it whilst watching a movie...

    2 + 4 = 24

    Today was a difficult day.

Discovering your internal metronome can be a hard process and as one may think playing gets harder at faster tempos, I find it's the exact opposite. My metronome was set to 20 bpm today. Give it a go, it's quite the challenge.
